Highlights: SUG-TX July 28th Meeting
The
Sybase Users’ Group of Texas met to do a follow up “Deep Dive” into the
features of the new PowerBuilder 12 .NET. After joining the beta program,
the audience downloaded and installed Beta 1 and took it on a test drive on
their laptops. Although not feature complete, the Beta migrated the
PowerBuilder Samples application and the PFC sample, and seemed stable for the
set of features available for testing.
A
spirited discussion ensued regarding the software’s feature set and strategic
ways to utilize the .NET framework and other .NET languages. A general
consensus was that the new IDE was preferable to the “classic” IDE and that all
targets should be migrated to the new IDE as soon as feasible. These
discussions will certainly continue after TechWave, when more information about
the near-term technical roadmap for PowerBuilder will become available.
