1) SUG-TX November 23rd Meeting Highlights

The Sybase Users' Group of Texas held their meeting on Tuesday, November 23rd with a presentation on Sybase Dynamic Archive , a product strategy for maximizing the performance of online transaction processing systems. In the presentation Bill discussed the life cycle of data, data growth, Sybase's vision of dynamic archiving, various architectural options, the data lifecycle assessment process, while answering many questions.

Sybase Dynamic Archive supports an environment of total data lifecycle management, enabling enterprises to reduce the size of application production databases, improve application performance, speed up maintenance activities, and reducing the costs associated with storage and maintenance.  Bill's presentation is available at  http://www.sugtx.org/MeetingResources/20041123/DynamicArchivePresentation.pdf

3) Sybase Partners with IBM to Sell Database Software

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sybase Inc. (SY.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Tuesday that it will partner with hardware vendor IBM (IBM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to market its Linux database software, potentially dealing a blow to Sun Microsystems, another long-standing partner.

The partnership is unusual in the sense that IBM already has a popular database software product called DB2 that competes against Sybase's own Adaptive Server Enterprise software.

The new agreement helps extend IBM's reach in the financial services industry, a traditional area of strength for Sybase.

Sybase will have an opportunity to increase database software sales by teaming up with Big Blue, which has made a big push into Linux in recent years.
