1) Next SUG-TX Meeting – January
24, 2006
Jeff Wayt of IOBar, Inc., will have
a presentation on two subjects:
1) Date Intervals- Strategies for
Recurring Events implemented in PowerBuilder
2) Email Empowering Your
PowerBuilder Application
Date Intervals are useful,
coded expressions of calendar events that can be stored in a database and used
in date math, similar to that seen in MS Outlook's Calendar. The strategy is
database and language neutral, although there will be samples of PowerBuilder
PFC-based source code available.
The Email topic will show how to
implement the Code Exchange version of PBNI SMTP to make & send emails in a
PowerBuilder application without using Outlook/MAPI. A lively discussion of how to make
management more robust will ensue.
SUG-TX will also be holding officer elections for
2006. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact Don
Clayton at dclayton@intertech.us.

2) Sybase iAnywhere Named Number One in
Worldwide Mobile Device Management
DUBLIN,
Calif. — JANUARY 5, 2006 —
Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading global enterprise infrastructure and mobile
software company, today announced that in a recent report, Worldwide Mobile
Device Management Enterprise 2004 Vendor Shares (IDC #34666, December 2005),
leading IT market research advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase and its iAnywhere
subsidiary as the leader in mobile device management enterprise software with
higher revenues and market share in a top 10 list that makes up more than
three-fourths of the market and is dominated by large systems management
vendors.
“2005
marks a year of significant advancement and growth for the MDM market through
mergers, acquisitions and new market entrants,” said Stephen Drake, program
director, Mobile Software at IDC. “It’s important because more and more
organizations are implementing mobile solutions and are seeking to adopt MDM
offerings at the point of deployment.”

Organizations

4) Get Ahead of
the Technology Curve and Ride the Wave
Data
keeps growing and becoming more valuable.
Companies must account for exploding data and how they are going to store
it so that it is readily available. To do this, it is necessary to be ahead of
the technology curve and ride the wave.
Getting
ahead of the curve means devising a new approach to data management, one that
includes unwiring data management infrastructure from legacy architectures,
extending the data wirelessly and lowering the cost of doing that, and
everything else as well. The assumption is that with enterprise data exploding,
it obviously matters now and even more so in the future.
