1) SUG-TX January Meeting Highlights

 

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas held a meeting on Tuesday, January 22, 2008.  The meeting was to plan for the presentations for 2008.  The planned topics are

 

  • March 25:             Sybase IQ
  • April 26:               PowerBuilder 11.2 and .Net
  • June 23:               Sybase Application Development Tools
  • July 22:                Adaptive Server Enterprise 15
  • August 26:            TechWave Recap
  • September 23:      Sybase Application Development Tools
  • October 28:          Sybase Modeling & Metadata Tools
 

Meetings will not be held in February, May, and November due to officer availability or proximity to holidays (Memorial Day and Thanksgiving).  December is the annual holiday party.  SUG-TX meets on the 4th Tuesday so add a recurring appointment on your calendar and watch for future meeting announcements and newsletters for details.

 

 

2) Next SUG-TX Meeting – March 25, 2008

 

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2008.  There will be a presentation on Sybase IQ by Mark Mumy of Sybase.  Mark your calendars and be sure to attend to find out more about IQ and its business analytics.  More details will be provided in the next newsletter.

 

The meetings are held at HAL-PC, 4543 Post Oak Place, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77027 (map).  Members frequently continue discussions at Champps Sports Bar after the meeting while waiting for traffic to subside.

 

 

3) Sybase Reports Best Quarter and Year in Company History

 

DUBLIN, CALIF. — January 24, 2008 — Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2007.  

 

Record Achievements:

  • Total revenue of $295.2 million for Q407 and $1.026 billion for full-year 2007
  • Non-GAAP operating margin of 28% for Q407 and 22% for full-year 2007
  • GAAP operating margin of 23% for Q407 and 16% for full-year 2007
  • Non-GAAP EPS of $0.61 for Q407 and $1.70 for full-year 2007
  • GAAP EPS of $0.81 for Q407 and $1.61 for full-year 2007
  • Cash flow from operations of $83.5 million for Q407 and $254.0 million for full-year 2007

Other Q407 Highlights:

  • Total license revenue of $112.9 million, up 12% year over year
  • Total database license revenues increased 16% year over year
  • Cash flow from operations up 65% year over year
  • Non-GAAP EPS growth of 17% and GAAP EPS growth of 185% year over year
  • Stock repurchases of $75.3 million

2007 Fourth Quarter Results

Total revenue for the fourth quarter of 2007 increased 15% to $295.2 million from $256.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2006.   License revenue grew 12% to $112.9 million from $100.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2006.  Services revenue increased 4% year over year to $143.5 million.  Messaging revenues were $38.8 million.

4) Sybase iAnywhere Announces SDK Support for Latest Bluetooth Wireless Specification

 

DUBLIN, CALIF.  — JANUARY 28, 2008 Sybase iAnywhere today announced the availability of its Blue SDK 3.0, the latest version of the company’s leading embedded Bluetooth® software development kit. The new SDK provides support for the Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR specification enabling the use of the newest radio devices from companies such as Atheros Communications, Broadcom Corporation, CSR, Marvell, Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments.  The new Bluetooth wireless specification enables more secure communications and improves the ease of which Bluetooth wireless enabled devices can bond a connection.

 

The Sybase® iAnywhere® Blue SDK version 3.0 consists of the core protocol stack plus application level profiles that make Bluetooth wireless communications possible. All software is compliant with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s (SIG) specifications, ensuring device manufacturers that their products will adhere to industry standards.
