1) SUG-TX July 28th Meeting – PowerBuilder 12 Deep Dive

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.  The presentation will be a Deep Dive into the PowerBuilder 12 release, hosted by Don Clayton of Intertech Consulting.  The presentation will provide an in-depth follow-up to the recent PowerBuilder 12 Customer Technology Preview Road Show event which many of you attended.

The deep dive will include a review of .NET 3.5’s Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), the basics of WPF, PowerBuilder 12 .NET’s use of WPF, more hands on with the PowerBuilder 12 .NET IDE, (bring your computers), and a review of the other release-defining features for PowerBuilder 12 “Classic”.

We will also be giving away the “bling” that didn’t make it to Houston in time for the CTP, so be sure to make it!

Agenda:

  4:00pm - 4:30pm    Introduction, Welcome, Q&A

4:30pm - 5:45pm    PowerBuilder 12 Classic and .NET Deep Dive

  5:45pm - 6:00pm    Wrap-up

6:30pm -                Post meeting discussions at Champps Americana (at the Uptown location)

The meetings are held at HAL-PC, 4543 Post Oak Place, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77027 (map).  Members frequently continue discussions at Champps Sports Bar after the meeting while waiting for traffic to subside.

2) Highlights: SUG-TX June 23rd Meeting

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas held their June meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.  The presentation was part of the “ISUG on the Road with the PowerBuilder 12 Community Technology Preview (CTP)” road show.

Sybase's very own Dave Fish was the guest speaker along with Sue Dunnell, Sybase Product Manager for PowerBuilder.  Dave’s presentation included a review of the PowerBuilder road-map, specifically as it relates to PowerBuilder 12 then discussed the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) for PowerBuilder Developers. The highlight of the meeting was the opportunity for attendees to take a test drive of the new PowerBuilder 12 CTP during an extended hands-on* session.  They explored the features of the new IDE, created and deployed a simple WPF application, and migrated an existing Win32 PowerBuilder application to WPF.
