1) SUG-TX Meeting
Highlights
The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas
held their meeting on Tuesday, April 25, 2006. The topic was “Achieving
Higher Throughput with Your SQL
Anywhere Database” an iAnywhere “for developers, by developers” webcast
led by Todd Loomis, Chief Systems Architect at CodeWorks Software Systems. The session discussed the lessons
learned from implementing high throughput systems and offered advice based on
Todd’s experience running SQL Anywhere databases storing hundreds of gigabytes
of data. The presentation was
followed by a round table discussion.
The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas
will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. The meeting will
focus on the new features found in PowerBuilder 10.5; and the roadmap to
PowerBuilder 11.0 and the world of .NET. PowerBuilder 10.5 has many major
enhancements, and even though it is not considered a full point release (like
PowerBuilder 6.5) it is a major release with many new features. The Sybase
PowerBuilder team split out a subset of features planned for the 11.0 release
and delivered them early, including:
·
Enhanced
Menus and Toolbars – to make your menus and toolbars look more like MS Office
·
A new
RTE control – Including many desired features including the ability to “Save As”
MS Word
·
A
TreeView DataWindow – Finally
·
AutoSize
Height for All DataWindow Bands and new Group Header control features
·
A
DropDownCalendar/DatePicker Control
·
Web
Services Enhancements
·
Print
Preview Enhancements
·
Database
Tracing Enhancements
The new features will allow for a
much more modern look and feel for existing PowerBuilder applications. Of
course, PowerBuilder 11 is slated to compile to .NET, and so the roadmap to .NET
and language changes will also be previewed. Don’t miss this exciting
forum in June!
The meetings are held at

5) Sybase
iAnywhere Announces Coveted Common Criteria Security Certification for SQL
Anywhere Database
Dublin,
CA – May 15, 2006 – iAnywhere, a
subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), today announced its Adaptive Server
Anywhere® database within SQL Anywhere® 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 has attained Evaluation
Assurance Level 3 (EAL3) augmented with ALC_FLR.2 from the International Common
Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation. This level of security
certification is evidence of the rigorous engineering process used in the
development of SQL Anywhere and the advanced security features built into it.
“Common Criteria is
an internationally recognized security certification required by the U.S and
other governments worldwide for any of their departments and agencies interested
in procuring commercially available products. Common Criteria certification also
assures businesses that a product meets a standard measure of security whether
it is used internally or in solutions for their customers. iAnywhere completed
its Common Criteria evaluation and certification for its Adaptive Server
Anywhere database through SAIC’s Accredited Testing and Evaluation Labs in
Columbia, Md.
This testing has found that the Adaptive Server Anywhere
database in SQL Anywhere 9.01 and 9.02 exceeds the requirements of EAL3 by
providing additional assurance in the area of flaw remediation. The additional
ALC_FLR.2 designation means that if a security flaw is discovered in the
product, there is a clearly defined procedure in place to effectively and
quickly identify the problem, report it, and take corrective action.
