1) Reminder: No May SUG-TX Meeting

As a reminder, the Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will not hold a May meeting due to the proximity of the Memorial Day holiday on May 25, 2009.  Enjoy your holiday and join us next month for the PowerBuilder 12 CTP.

2) SUG-TX June 23rd Meeting - PowerBuilder 12 Community Technology Preview

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.  The presentation will be part of the “ISUG on the Road with the PowerBuilder 12 Community Technology Preview” road show.

Each meeting will include a review of new technology scheduled for release in PowerBuilder 12, followed by a hands-on session where attendees will get to navigate their own way through various aspects of the CTP, all under the watchful eye of a Sybase PowerBuilder expert.

"A Community Technology Preview is designed to solicit informative feedback from the members of the community at which the product is aimed," said Mike Harrold, ISUG Executive Director. "It therefore makes perfect sense to introduce PowerBuilder users to the CTP through their local Sybase user groups."

Complete information on each of these meetings, along with registration information, will be posted online at www.isug.com/common/UpcomingEvents.html.  Seating is limited at each meeting, so interested users should register as soon as they know they will be attending. There is no cost to attend, but preference will be given to members of ISUG and the user group hosting the event.  The meeting will be held at an earlier time than the regular SUG-TX meeting so mark your calendars to be available on the afternoon of June 23rd.

5) Sybase and MicroStrategy Team Up to Dramatically Reduce Time for Implementation of Business Analytics

Sybase IQ and MicroStrategy Provide Rapid Reporting, High-Performance Advanced Analytics & Dynamic Enterprise Dashboards

DUBLIN, CALIF. — MAY 12, 2009 Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software, today announced that it has entered into a new agreement with MicroStrategy® Incorporated, a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence software (NASDAQ: MSTR). Sybase will offer integrated packaging and pricing in an exclusive promotion on MicroStrategy products when sold with its Sybase® IQ analytics server.

Through the agreement, customers benefit from integrated packaging, joint product certification, and vendor-to-vendor technical support. In addition, Sybase can now offer MicroStrategy consulting services and education, thereby providing streamlined access to a broad range of combined business intelligence-related services. The two companies have committed to building demonstration solutions showcasing the capabilities of the combined technologies.

"Business intelligence and data warehousing solutions are expected to take on an increasing value in the present economic environment," said Dan Vesset, IDC Program Vice President of Business Analytics. "IDC believes the extension of the alliance between Sybase and MicroStrategy will simplify the acquisition, deployment, and use of the combined solution thus helping customers maximize the value of their BI investments."

The Sybase IQ analytics server is designed specifically to deliver dramatically faster results for mission-critical business intelligence (BI), data warehousing (DW) and reporting solutions. MicroStrategy has built-in optimizations that work seamlessly with Sybase IQ to deliver answers to critical business questions ten to hundreds of times faster at a significantly lower total cost of ownership than traditional row-based databases.

“MicroStrategy’s alliance with Sybase has produced solutions that help data management customers maximize the performance and value of their data and business intelligence environments,” said Sanju Bansal, MicroStrategy COO. “This agreement provides another example of both MicroStrategy and Sybase’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and how the collaboration between our companies continues to benefit our shared customers."

Sybase and MicroStrategy have collaborated for over 10 years to deliver great value for enterprise customers by combining their core expertise in BI, Data Integration and DW technologies. In June of 2008, Sybase unveiled the Sybase Analytic Appliance, which employs MicroStrategy 8™, along with its own Sybase IQ and Sybase PowerDesigner® products, to supply enhanced analytics and ease the ever-increasing burden placed on enterprise data warehouses, data marts and reporting systems. By delivering cost efficient, high-performance solutions, the new agreement addresses the needs of a growing user population demanding advanced analytics on large data volumes.
