Highlights: SUG-TX Sept 22nd Meeting
The
Sybase Users’ Group of Texas held their most recent meeting on Tuesday,
September 22, 2009. The presentation was a wrap up of the TechWave 2009
Symposium held August 26-27, 2009 in Washington DC. Both
database and development tools were presented at the conference.
On
the development front, PowerBuilder 11.5.1 and PowerBuilder .NET 12 Beta 1 (refresh)
were hot topics. Houston has already had a generous amount of attention
from Sybase, with both the PowerBuilder 11.5 and .NET 12.0 road shows having
been presented locally. Building on the topics of the TechWave Symposium
and the two recent roadshows, SUG-TX President Don Clayton continued the deep
dive into PowerBuilder 12.0 and PowerBuilder .NET strategies.
A
lively discussion followed on three topics; how to cost effectively update
existing PowerBuilder applications, the design of state of the art graphical
UXs (User Experience is Microsoft’s successor term for User Interface), and
strategies to move PowerBuilder applications to the web. Sybase recently
published two whitepapers on the subject, both of which were authored by Don in
his spare time. The Sybase web site offers links to Don’s two most recent
whitepapers:
