Abstract:
While Sybase ASE
users have adopted DBArtisan and Rapid SQL en masse, you may not be as familiar
with some of Embarcadero’s newer products for Sybase ASE. These include
easy-to-use tools for database performance monitoring and tuning, modeling for
data warehouses, and database change management. Scott will also explain
the new model of centralized tool provisioning where you can now have your own
“private cloud” of software tools— delivered on demand.
Scott’s interactive
session with our members will cover high-level concepts and best practices, but
the majority of the time will be spent showcasing how to leverage the latest
tools and technologies to get your Sybase ASE jobs done quickly.

2) SUG-TX
August 24th Meeting Highlights
The Sybase Users’
Group of Texas held their meeting on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. The meeting
covered the announcements and presentations from the Sybase TechWave 2010
conference, held recently in Washington DC from August 9 -
11.
SUG-TX Secretary,
Cindy Bean, reviewed the keynotes sessions and the announcements and
presentations in the database tracks. There were 4 database tracks running
during most of the technical sessions, 2 on ASE/RS, 1 on Advantage Database
Server, and 1 on SQL Anywhere. There were 2 more tracks for Analytics,
covering Sybase IQ, RAP, and CEP. The technical sessions were very
detailed oriented with speakers from Sybase engineering, product management,
software consulting, and a few customers.
SUG-TX Vice
President, Jeff Wayt, and SUG-TX President, Don Clayton, reviewed the
presentations and announcements for the development track. The majority of
presentations in the development track were presented by Dave Fish and John
Strano, long time PowerBuilder evangelists, and frequent speakers at SUG-TX
meetings and events. Jeff showed a picture of Dave and John performing air
guitar at the TechWave special event as they wowed the crowd of TechWave
attendees.

Sybase Combine Forces to Unwire the Enterprise
Company Leaders
Unveil Joint Strategy and Product Innovations for Customers in Enterprise
Mobility, Business Analytics and Enterprise Information Management
BOSTON, MASS. AND
FRANKFURT, GERMANY - AUGUST 19, 2010 — At a co-located event today in Boston and
Frankfurt, company leaders from SAP
AG (NYSE: SAP) and Sybase came together
for the first time to share the strategy and joint product direction for the
newly combined companies. In a bold move that brings together established
industry leaders and changes the game for enterprise mobility, SAP announced its
intent to acquire Sybase on May 12, 2010. In the few months since that time, the two
companies have moved quickly to create product road maps and innovations to
transform the way people and businesses work. The combined companies now
represent the market-leading position in enterprise applications, business
analytics and mobile infrastructure.
Recognizing the
strength of Sybase’s existing business model, SAP confirmed that Sybase will be
run as a separate, independent unit – and that customer investments in Sybase
products will be preserved and supported. Setting the stage for their vision of
an unwired enterprise and embracing the evolution of mobile as the new desktop,
SAP and Sybase today also unveiled strategic product directions and planned
co-innovations in three key areas: enterprise mobility, business analytics and
enterprise information management (EIM).

Retain Core Strengths While Leveraging Synergies for
